White House to issue guidance for transgender restrooms in schools

The battle has intensified over transgender restroom use in schools in the United States. Now, the White House says it’s issuing guidelines for the entire country.

That’s right, the Obama administration plans to tell every public school district on Friday to allow transgender students to use the bathrooms that match their gender identity.

The move comes as the Obama administration and North Carolina battle in federal court over a state law passed in March that limits public bathroom access for transgender people.

“Some of you have lived freely for decades. And others of you are still wondering how you can possibly live the lives you were born to lead.”

The letter does not have the force of law but implicitly threatens lawsuits or loss of federal aid for those who don’t abide.

Bruce, the letter essentially demands students identifying with a sex, regardless of birth gender, can use the restroom of their choice?

That’s what I make of the letter. It actually says… schools may not require transgender students to have a medical diagnosis, undergo any medical treatment, or produce a birth certificate or other document before treating them according to their gender identity.

Recent polling shows more Americans believe people should use restrooms according to their biological sex. So it appears Obama has an uphill battle. Thanks Bruce.
